SVN-Miller Hosts Sold Out 2019 Annual Economic Forum

The SVN-Miller 2019 Annual Economic Forum took place on March 22, 2019 at the Guerrieri Academic Commons at Salisbury University.  The topic of this year’s forum was “Why Invest on the Eastern Shore?

SVN-Miller’s own Wesley Cox, CCIM, kicked off the event with an Overview of Local Market Statistics.  Wesley said, “The markets on the Delmarva Peninsula continue to be attractive to out of the area investors and businesses with a better return than they can achieve in larger urban markets.  Because of this, we are seeing a larger pool of prospects, historically low inventory, and rising valuations.”

Guest Speaker, Jake Day, Mayor, City of Salisbury, provided perspective on the happenings of Salisbury.  A panel including Tom Hudson, Twilley, Rommel & Stephens, CPA and Bruce Johnson, Capstan Tax Strategies, discussed Tax Incentives, Tax Reform & Your Commercial Real Estate Investments. Tonney Insley, SVN-Miller Advisor, moderated a presentation on Why Invest on the Eastern Shore from panelists Brett Summers, NOVO Properties and Tim Elliot, Elliott Sidewalk Communities.

The forum’s Featured Speaker, Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group, Anirban Basu, provided economic data.  Anirban said, “The Eastern Shore offers much for which American business is searching.  A can-do workforce, access to large markets, elevated quality of life, and a favorable cost environment.  No wonder the economy there continues to flourish both in terms of job growth and property values.”

After the forum, Tom Hudson said, “It’s always a pleasure and a challenge to provide your audience with useful tax information while trying to keep it interesting. Proper tax planning, to include cost segregation studies, is a critical piece of a successful real estate investment. Having professionals in your corner that understands how to navigate and utilize the revenue code to your advantage can amplify the effectiveness of any real estate transaction.

The SVN Annual Economic Forum always provides me with detailed updates as to what is happening in my community. It is important for me as a professional in the business community to have a general feeling of the pulse of the local economy. The economic data presented by Anirban, the real estate transactions and trends covered by Wesley Cox, and Mayor Jake Day’s perspective on happenings in Salisbury all provide me with data that I can incorporate into making the best decisions and recommendations for my clients. Additionally, each year when I hear about the recent developments happening in Salisbury and the Delmarva Peninsula, I can’t help but get excited for the future of the area that my family and I call home.”
